Nickisher White December 4, 2013 Professor Fischer Gender Inequality in a Global Perspective What is Gender Inequality? Like others, a social problem that is widespread in American society is Gender inequality. It is a problem that has had a negative impact on American society. Gender inequality can be found in many sub-systems of America. It is important to understand what gender inequality is in order to identify and correct the problem. Two sub-systems that gender inequality can be found are in the family and in the workplace. Gender inequality, in my definition, is the unequal and biased treatment between the two sexes. I strongly believe that the unequal treatment of women is something that should have stayed in original†¦show more content†¦Studies show that in the past, women earned about 65-70 percent of what men earned for the same job. Another problem that is apparent is â€Å"the glass ceiling.† The â€Å"glass ceiling† refers to the invisible barriers to the promotion of women within a discriminatory firm allowing very little upward mobility. I find it to be ridiculo us how women are so limited on their role in the workplace. It’s known that they have a tough time moving up the ladder, but the truth is women are just as capable as men if not more. These are common problems of gender inequality found in the workplace. From as far as history can go back, men have always been superior to women. Gender inequality is still strong in American society and is one of the largest social problems that women face. It is important that we become aware of what gender inequality is and try to find a solution to the problem; whether with family or in the workplace, it should be a priority of American society to correct the problem in order to device true equality.
